Following the announcement earlier this year, of our competition to find 3 talented riders to sponsor for a 12-month period, we were overwhelmed by the number of applications we received. The task to whittle the list down to a shortlist of just 6 riders was very challenging as there were so many talented, dedicated and truly deserving applicants. However, after very careful consideration, we arrived at 6 riders who we felt would not only be fantastic brand ambassadors for Kanyon but that inspired us with their commitment, drive and the unique and special partnerships they share with their horses.

We are now handing over to the public for the final phase of the competition and leaving it to them to decide which 3 riders we should sponsor. Voting is open until Monday 14th August and only one vote per person is permitted. Votes can be placed by visiting: This link is also available on our facebook page:

The 3 winners will be based entirely on the number of votes they receive so every vote counts. Kanyon would like to thank everybody who took the time to enter and extend massive congratulations to our six shortlisted riders and wish them the very best of luck!

Our Six shortlisted riders are:

Jessica Smith-Clarke

Discipline: Dressage

At just 7 years old Jessica is our youngest shortlisted rider, but don’t let her age fool you - she may be young but she has huge talent, enthusiasm and ambition.

Jessica has 2 ponies but her main ride is on her own Sarum Little Lady (Lady) a 12hh Reg Section A, that she has worked incredibly hard to produce herself. Lady is now 6 years old and Jess’ hard work and commitment is really paying off. She is a member of BYRDS and Pony Club and has already competed at prelim level with a wall full of rosettes that highlight her amazing achievements, some of which include: Reserve Champion (SWAWPCS), Young Rider Award & Prize at the Stretcholt Winter League Dressage Championships 2016 and Qualifying for Cricklands 2016 and Sunshine Tour 2016.

Jessica and Lady continue to work hard and train consistently and this year the pair have already qualified for the Allen & Page Native Breeds Dressage Championship 2017 and are set to qualify for the Quest Regional Finals 2017. Jess has also joined a ‘Team Quest’ team – SPICE BYRDS and is enjoying competing as part of the team.

Jessica is focussed on one day becoming an Olympic Dressage Rider and we have no doubt that with such commitment and dedication she will achieve her dream.

Amelia Bowring

Discipline: Show Jumping

Amelia travels nationally competing on 2 delightful horses. Her newest and main competition horse is Donna Bella a 16.3hh 7 year old German Warmblood that has already proved to be a very scopey and capable mare. So far this year Amelia and Donna Bella have already qualified for two regional second rounds for the Amateur Championships at Aintree and they have also qualified for the Discovery regional for 2018. As if that wasn’t enough, the pair have just started to gain their Members Cup double clears for the National Championships 2018.

Amelia’s second competition horse is the lovely 23 year old Lucy May, a 16.3hh German Warmblood who Amelia spent 5 years competing on at Grade A.  Lucy still loves her work and still competes in local dressage and showing classes.

Finally, we have the faithful travelling companion and official yard mascot; Matilda the 5yr old Miniature Shetland. Now famous on the show circuit Matilda refuses to be left behind. Keep your eye out for her around the country because although she is small she has a huge presence!

It is proving to be a very successful year for Amelia, as she has also recently qualified as a UKCC Level 2 British Show Jumping Coach after being selected for the BS Young Professional Programme who selected her as a coach.

Beth Dyson

Discipline: Eventing

Beth currently owns 4 horses but her main competition horse is the 8 year old, bay, Oldenburg x ISH gelding; King Pingu. Beth and Pingu (as he is affectionately known) started their journey together when Pingu was purchased as a rising 5 year old that had literally done nothing. 8 weeks later he came 3rd in his first BE90 competition and from that day has just continued to exceed all expectations.

Beth’s determination and dedication to reach the top has no limits and in Pingu she has found a horse that is willing to give his all. They currently compete at intermediate/2* having finished 3rd at Bishop Burton and recently 2nd at Aske Horse Trials. They hope to progress to advanced/3* next season.

Pingu is no one trick ‘horse’ – he and Beth enjoy dressage and affiliated showjumping when the eventing season is over and use it to improve their eventing scores. Pingu’s extremely laid-back attitude and kindness makes him a firm favourite wherever he goes and we have no doubt that we will see Beth and Pingu achieve their ambitions.

Katie Louise Bedwin

Discipline: Endurance

Katie is the current leading UK young rider in endurance and has been for the past 2 seasons. She is working and training hard to ensure she maintains her position for 2017. Katie owns 5 horses, competing on 4 of them, which are all Pure or Part Bred Arabian; a stunning breed of horse ideally suited to the difficult challenges that endurance riding presents.

Katie is just 19 but has been competing for over 10 years with the last 4 years venturing further afield to compete internationally. She has many amazing achievements under her belt, such as; Kings Forest 2016 – CEI 2* 120 km - 1st place, Windsor 2016 – CEI 2* 120km – 3rd GB rider home and top young rider, Pilgrims Trail 2016 – 80km National Race – 1st place.

This year Katie has already qualified for the Wold Endurance Championships for Yong Riders in Italy this September and is tailoring her season to ensure both she and her horses are in the best shape possible for this highly acclaimed event.

Megan Bell

Discipline: Dressage, Show jumping and Cross Country

Megan owns and competes on the very handsome 17.2h dark chestnut warmblood; Frank (more formerly known as Daiquiris Magic Rhythm). Frank came into Megan’s life as a recently broken 5 year old and now at 7 years old and after a lot of hard work and training, is beginning to develop into a young event horse prospect.

Frank, unsurprisingly has a huge scopey jump and isn’t afraid to use it. It is his nimbleness around a dressage arena however that makes people look twice and has earned him the nickname of ‘Twinkle Toes’.

Megan and Frank are currently competing at 90/100 in ODE, 1m -1.05 show jumping and elementary dressage. They have many achievements under their belts such as BRC novice winter championships 2015 (dressage & showjumping) 5th place, KBIS show cross championships (2017) and BRC festival of the horse championships 2016 (combined training) 6th place.

This season they are working towards qualifying for the BRC championships, which involves both dressage and showjumping classes and trying their best to qualify for the pony club eventing championships.

Patricia Pitt

Discipline: British Dressage

Patricia is not only a highly regarded Dressage Rider but she is also known as ‘The Dressage Tipster’ and along with having a huge facebook following of people that love to hear her hints and tips to help them on their dressage journey she is also author of the book ‘The Crystal System’, which is the story of her dressage journey from a somewhat frustrated grassroots rider to the beginning of her dressage competition career with her lovely horse A.K.

A.K. (more formally known as Park’s Reika) is a homebred 15.3hh, 10 year old British Warmblood mare and Patricia’s horse of a lifetime. They have been on a huge journey together and have built an incredible partnership.

A.K. and Patricia are currently competing at Novice Level and are busy planning their route to Winter Qualification with the objective of reaching the National Championships. Patricia has a huge desire to succeed and is very focussed on her ambitions. She has set clear goals for herself and A.K. which we are sure they will both achieve.
